Google announced a $4 billion Arkansas investment through 2027, including its first data center in the state at West Memphis. It also described work with Entergy on a 600 MW solar project. [1]
Those figures measure different things. The investment spans multiple activities. The solar number is generation capacity. Neither establishes the data center’s IT load or round-the-clock power availability.
This is why source discipline matters. A market can look much larger—or more ready—when investment, generation, and facility demand are treated as interchangeable.
For an Arkansas site, my diligence questions would be specific: What load can the utility serve initially? What upgrades enable expansion? How will the cooling design affect water requirements? Which local approvals are required, and what documentation shows their status?
